Crowns

Your smile and confidence can easily be affected when you have chipped or fractured teeth, broken down fillings, or teeth that are malformed or discoloured. However, there’s no need to worry because your smile’s natural beauty can be restored with a crown.

A crown or ‘cap’ fits over the remaining part of the tooth to make it strong and give it the appearance of a natural tooth.

Crowns can be made of lots of different materials:

  • Most crowns are made of porcelain which has been bonded to a precious metal
  • Some are made entirely out of porcelain; although not as strong as bonded crowns, they look very natural and are most often used for front teeth
  • All-ceramic crowns are very modern technique. They are free of metal and yet extremely strong
  • Gold alloy is one of the oldest dental filling materials. Today it is used with other metal alloys to increase its strength, which makes it a very hardwearing restoration

Your swiss smile dentist will prepare the tooth and then take an impression of it. The crown is then created for you in our dental laboratory in Switzerland or in-house. It is made to match your other teeth as closely as possible.
