The correct use of dental floss

Next to the toothbrush, dental floss is the most effective tool for the prevention of decay.  Dental floss cleans the dental interstices, where the toothbrush cannot reach.  Without the daily cleaning of these interstices (once a day will suffice) using dental floss, the bacteria which cause decay will multiply undisturbed.

Wind the dental floss around the middle fingers.  For the top teeth, make a fist and use both thumbs to apply tension to the floss.
For the bottom teeth, again wind the dental floss around both middle fingers, make a fist, and use the two index fingers to apply pressure from above.

With gentle sawing movements, thread the floss through the dental interstices.  Do not press too hard, in order to avoid damage to the gums.
Move the floss back and forth a few times across the inner surface of the teeth.  Don't be discouraged - with a little practice, you will get less bleeding and your cleaning technique will improve.
