Sedation

If deemed necessary, our staff are licensed to perform relative sedation (relative analgesia, or RA) with nitrous oxide/oxygen (laughing gas), which is a blend of two gases, oxygen and nitrous oxide. It is administered through a small breathing mask which is placed over the child’s nose. This safe and effective technique allows the child to relax, but without putting him/her to sleep, thus making dental treatment much easier. The gas is mild, non-addictive, easily taken, and is eliminated from the body through normal breathing.

We can also provide intravenous sedation if necessary. This is always administered by an anaesthesiologist.
