The first visit
We recommend that children have their first dental appointment before their first birthday, so that any dental problems can be detected and treated early on. This will help set your child on the path to better oral health.
We encourage parents to arrange their child’s treatment for the early morning, as children are usually more alert and cooperative at that time of day. However, we also provide afternoon and after-school treatment slots. For your convenience, our clinics are open 365 days a year.
To make your child’s first visit as stress-free as possible, we recommend that children bring their favourite cuddly toy to ‘introduce’ to us and play with during their appointment. A tour of the clinic also helps the child to feel more comfortable and relaxed.
We support the ‘open concept’ theme at swiss smile Kids, whereby parents are invited to remain in the treatment room with their child, throughout the whole appointment if needed, to provide a reassuring presence.
During the first visit, a full oral assessment and diagnosis is carried out. If necessary, X-rays will be taken, depending on the results of the examination, and on any past history of tooth decay. An intra-oral camera shows what is going on, while the dentist explains any findings. At the end of each visit, we will teach your child proper oral hygiene techniques, including correct brushing and flossing, as well as good eating habits. To help ensure that your child maintains a good relationship with our dental staff, he or she will be awarded a prize to take home afterwards.
We will also be happy to answer any questions and concerns you may have regarding your child’s oral/dental health, and discuss any possible further treatment in the relaxed atmosphere of our offices.
